Whilst diving a site called Waikiki off Puerto Del Carmen beach, Lanzarote, we encountered a Manta Ray or Manta Diablo, by its Spanish name. It was at 28 metres. It came in to have a look at us 3 times, before we had to carry on with the dive plan. It was like a small airplane. It spanned about 4 metres. This also includes some footage from the MV Tenderete. It's the wreck of a fishing boat about 26 metres long, purposely scuttled for diving near to the harbour entrance at Puerto Calero. Not much life on it yet. It lies upright on the seabed. The bottom of the hull is at 26 metres and all hatch covers have been removed to allow penetration of the rear and forward holds.
This is the promotional video for Squalo Diving in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. I've dived with them twice and they are excellent. I also dived with the cameraman who made this, the day after I managed to film a manta diablo. So I'm still negotiating a price with him for the footage! Looking to put a trip together for next year to Lanzarote, so take a look at the video. It provides a great insight into the diving locations and flora and fauna.
My daughter completed the PADI Open Water course with Squalo Dive Centre, Puerto Calero and we both had the pleasure of diving with some really nice people: Joan Miquel y la familia Flamarich, Fernando Navarro (Catalonia), Jon Zubeldia (Bilbao), Zavi (Madrid) and Pilar Hildago from Cordoba, Southern Spain (not N. Spain as I've stated in the video credits). I would totally recommend Lanzarote for diving. Hope you enjoy the video.
